Human Life Is Precious--Please Help If You Can

"Providing clothing, blankets, diapers, bottles...and a little bit of love to very special babies."

Last week my family decided to donate to a local program called Wee Care, which is an outreach program of Right to Life-LIFESPAN here in the Detroit area. We've done this many times and are always pleased to help new mothers in need who have decided to choose life for their unborn babies. We dropped off some baby clothes and a box of diapers we had purchased at Costco and did not really think about it again until we received the most beautiful thank-you letter from Karen Patrosso, the director of Wee Care. It moved me so much that I wanted to share a few exerpts with you, to show how very thankful she was. Most of the time when people donate items to charity, they never get an actual idea of who received the items and their reaction. That is fine, of course; we give because we want to help, certainly not for accolades or thanks. But to hear actual stories of families who were so very grateful really moved me, and it made me want to do so much more.

"As you can imagine," she wrote, "we never have enough diapers, so they were much appreciated. I gave the entire carton to a mom with twins and she was thrilled!"

She went on to write that the outfits we had purchased went to two mothers, one who had a preemie in the hospital for a month, who was thrilled to have her new son wear it home from the hospital. The other outfit went to a mom who is really struggling. Both she and her husband have lost their jobs and have no money for clothes for their infant son.

"The situations are all different," she wrote, "all desperate. But the babies are all the same: so very precious. Thank you for caring about them."

I was so touched by this letter. Such little things to us are such big things to those who are struggling and need help. I made the decision that I was going to tell everyone I know about Wee Care and the wonderful work they do for babies and their families. Wee Care exists solely due to the generosity of those who can help. They are in constant need of new and clean, gently used baby items, as well as volunteers to help sort and launder the clothing or work in the Wee Care center in Livonia.

Wee Care is a place where families can turn to in an emergency situation when their needs cannot be met by other organizations or public agencies. Their baby layettes are lovingly filled with both new and gently used clothing, warm blankets, diapers, and other necessities. Babies are referred to Wee Care by churches, crisis pregnancy centers, hospitals, visiting nurses, social agencies, and others.

Think you might be able to help? Here is a list of items Wee Care needs:

There are so many more families who need our help. They chose life, the only choice, and if we are blessed enough financially to be able to help, we should. Human life is so precious. Every baby is loved by God. Please help these babies if you can. You will be so glad you did. As Wee care says, "The hope for future generations rests in our hands. May we keep that in our hearts."
